Angels and Demons : difference between the Book And Movie

angelsanddemons

Those who have read the book,,,, im sure you have noticed the big difference. Let me point some… If my memory serves me right(I’ve read the book like 2 years ago I guess!) here are some of the difference…

B stands for book version..

M stands for Movie version…

1.B. CERN is unaware of the Antimatter. Only Leonardo and his adopted daughter Vittoria Vetra created it.

M. the staffs of CERN were involved in the antimatter creation. they  rejoiced when the antimatter project was successful.

2.  B. Leaonardo Vetra, the creator of the antimatter was killed. He was found by Kohler and later told Vitoria about it. She later told Kohler about the stolen antimatter.

M. Vittoria found Sylvano,(the one who guards the antimatter)dead. and found out that the antimatter is stolen.

3. B. Kohler contacted Robert Langdon through a phone call and faxed him the illuminati symbol. He went to CERN facility with a high tech Jet. Together with Vittoria, they went to Vatican coz they believe that it is hidden there as the Papal conclave for the Pope Election has concvened. At first they didn’t believed them but later o the guards found a video from the Vatican which shows the canister.

M. A representative of Vatican approached Langdon and took him to the Vatican.

4.  B. All the 4 Preferiti died. Cardinal Mortati(who leads the Papal Election)became the new Pope.

M. 3 Prefiriti died. Cardinal Baggia of Italy was saved by Langdond and other people from drowning at the Fountain of Four rivers in Piazza Novana. And he later became the New Pope.

5.  B. Vittoria was kidnapped by the hassasin. And Langdon escaped the fire.

M. Vittoria was left in the Vatican to read Sylvano’s Journal which was sent to Vatican to find out who the killer is.

6. B. Kohler who was left at CERN found out who was behind all of what’ happening by reading Leonardo Vetra’s Journals. Went to the Vatican. Told Rocher about it. And helped him confront the Camerlengo.

M. Commandante Rocher stole Sylvano’s journal from Vitoria and found out who the mastermind was. Told a certain Fr. Simone and went to confront the Camerlengo.

7. B. Vittoria was saved by Langdon from the hassasin and rushed to Camerlengo for they thought Kohler is the mastermind and will kill the Camerlengo…they caught Kohler on the act of shooting the Camerlengo. The swiss guard shoot Kohler and Rocher that led to their death.

M. Langdon and Vittoria found a tunnel that leads to the Vatican and rushed to the camerlengo. They found Commandante Rocher on the act of shooting Camerlengo The swiss guards shoot Rocher and later Fr. Simone which led to their death.

8. B. Before Kholer died, he handed Langdon a videotape.

M. Before Rocher died,he handed a golden key to Langdon.

9. B. the Camerlengo flew the helicopter to let the Antimatter explode in the sky. Langdon is also in the helicopter. Both of them jumped before it exploded and survived.

M. The Camerlengo flew the helicopter by himself to let the antimatter explode in the sky. He jumped before it exploded.

10. B. Langdon watched the videotape gven by Kohler . It was the conversation between Kohler and Camerlengo in the confrontation and found out that the Camerlengo planned it all. Went to the Cardinals and revealed what the Camerlengo ha done.

M. Langdon and Vittoria is in Rochers office and discovered Sylvanos journals and a monitor where all the security in inside the Vatican is being monitored. They watched the conversation between Rocher and Camerlengo in the confrontation together with the ther Cardinals they found out it was his plan.

11. B. Camerlengo burned himself in front of the crowed.

M.  He burned himself inside the Vatican where only those who are inside knew….

12. B. Camerlengo’s name is Carlo Ventresca and he is The late Pope’s son through Artificial Insemination. The reason why the late pope is also a believer of science. It gave Him a chance to bear a son to a woman he loved without breaking his vow 0f celibacy(?).The Cmerlengo didn know abou this. He only found out that the Pope had fathered a child so for him the Pope is a sinner and he believe that God not science should dictate the moral creed of the people.Thats why he poisoned the Pope and led the people believe that it’s all an illuminati work.

M. Camerlengo’s name is Patrick(I think that’s what I heard). Only mentioned that the Pope adopted him.

In the Movie, they have taken out some characters like Kohler, Leonardo Vetra, reporter glick and macri and their side stories like the hassasin…why he did the killings told by Janus(disguised by camerlengo). And i hink the 5th symbol should be a diamond with all the 4 elemnts written..in the movie it was  key shaped…They also never mentioned about the attraction between Langdon and Vittoria.

all in al the movie was abe to stand in its own…

If ever i made any mistakes feel free to correct me…

In the book, wasn’t the Camerlengo elected Pope before being found out? And then Cardinal Mortati becomes Pope? I don’t remember.

yep….in the book…without analyzing it,they had elected the Camerlengo a Pope because theyve been saying his name repeatedly, its like election through admiration /acclamation….not thru election…..but then again..we all know he burned himself and the election continued. They asked Cardinal Mortati to step down on his post as the head of the election because they saw how he managed to stay calm and kept in mind to always follow the rules inside the Vatican.remember that when the cardinals were suggesting for the camerlengo to become the Pope,Mortati was the only one who opposed because the camerlengo doesnt meet the requirements to become the Pope.Mortati then joined the election and he became the Pope.

Book: The missing anti-matter was found by the Camerlengo thru a vision.
Movie: Robert Langdon solved some puzzle to lead him to the anti-matter.

    Additional Info on Number 12:
Book: Someone told the Camerlengo that he’s the son of the late Pope in the end of the story that’s why he burned himself.
Movie: The Camerlengo never knew that he was the son of the late Pope by a nun thru science.

    14
Book: The conflict between science and religion was very much highlighted. Specially when how the Church treated the Illuminati.
Movie: This conflict was only described lightly.

    15
Book: The Hassasin was killed falling on a steep staircase.
Movie: The Hassasin was killed in an explosion after starting the car.

    16
Book: Langdon and Victoria was intimate in the end of the story.
    Movie: They were never intimate.

13.about the antimattter found by the camerlengo..i remembered in the book they stated that he was like going crazy, mumbling over and over again the words in the bible.in this stone ill build my church or something…

14.i think the reason why the conflict between the church and science not highlighted because they ( the production team) doesnt want any more problems just like the critiscsm they faced on the Da Vinci code….

16..ur right about these….they skipped the romantic attarction between Langdon and Vittoria…..

      CORRECTION to #15
Book: Robert finds Vittoria and the Hassasin at the Church of Illumination (Castel Sant’Angelo) and Robert fights the Hassasin on the balcony, several hundred feet about the ground. Robert is almost knocked off the balcony, but Vittoria escapes the ropes binding her and helps Robert push the Hassasin off the balcony. His spine snaps when he lands on a pile of cannonballs.

Movie: The Hassasin was killed in an explosion after starting the car.

Source: I just read the book.

also, in the movie, i was anticipating how Vittoria is dressed up. In the book, she was described as wearing shorts since she’s been doing field works.

If I am not mistaken, in the book the Camerlengo jumped from the helicopter leaving Langdon by himself without any parachute. Nobody realizes that the Camelengo used a parachute and he appears in the roof of a building and that is why everybody thought it was a miracle. Langdon used some information he had picked at the CERN to jump and from the helicopter and he falls into a river, he later wakes up in a hospital.. I read the book some time ago so I may be wrong

the camerlengo did all this in the movie because he felt science was taking over and there will be no more faith so he did this to unite the christians together agains “the enemy.” In the book he was upset that the Pope had sex with a woman an conceived him and when he found out that it was thru artificial insemination he killed himseld

I may be mistaken, but I think I remember correctly.

B: Langdon takes the 3rd Galileo book, and it is destroyed when he lands in the water from jumping from the helicopter.

M: They steal 1 page of the book, and he is given the rest at the end by the church.

B: Robert was in the helicopter with the camerlengo when the explosion happened.
M: Only the camerlengo was in the helicopter.

B: Langdon is alone when he goes into the archives the second time and gets locked in. He also has no gun.

M: Langdon is with an escort, Chartrand, which is where he gets the gun.

In the book there is a chain reaction with the bookshelves toppling over causing a chain rection that leads to the last bookshelf breaking against the glass inside the archives where Langdon is in.

The movie just has one shelf.

Also at the tomb of St. Peter, wasn’t there like a real corpse underground? I remember the book describing it very dark and musky.

But in the movie it was bright and the antimatter was just there in plain sight.

B: The hassassin attempts to kill Langdon and Vittoria once they locate him at the Church of Illumination.
M: The hassassin lets both Langdon and Vittoria go, claiming that they were not targets of his.

B: The hassassin is of Middle-Eastern descent.
    M: The hassassin is Caucasian.
